Welcome to the sunny Split travel destination! The second biggest city in Croatia and basically the capital of Dalmatia, this diverse city has many things to offer to a tourist. For that reason, thousands of domestic and foreign tourists choose Split as their perfect vacation destination each year. A unique blend of antique and modern, Split will fulfill desires of the pickiest of tourists, as its offer includes both mass tourism arangements as well as the niche ones.

Split is the biggest port of the region and is the transport point for ferries that lead to almost any Croatian island. Šolta, Brač, Hvar, Korčula, Vis – just a few of the numerous majestic gems to reach by boats departing from Split. Despite this industrial feature, the old city centre is just a couple hundred metres from the port. In 4th century, a Roman emperor named Diocletian chose Split as the perfect place to build his summer villa – the palace has been preserved and is to this day the most important tourist spot of the city. Inside its walls you can find hundreds of local bars, restaurants, local street food points, shops and ateliers, as well as antique small streets that invite you to get lost.

Close to Diocletian’s Palace, you will find a modern riva that leaves a luxurious impression and offers  a walking area, various bars and a lot of greenery that shelter you from the sun while relaxing on the benches near the sea. The view is far from unpleasant: sailing boats and ferries crossing the Adriatic, dotted with numerous islands. Do take time to visit at least some of them – check information points and find a huge offer of cheap one-day boat trips around the Split coast.

Emperor Diocletian had it built as his retirement mansion. The form, however, resembles more of a fortress, and its walls have been perfectly preserved to this day, together with some temples, a court called Peristyle and for the bigger part, underground hallways. This is the hotspot of the city, pleasing the shoppers, the eaters, the viewers and the listeners.

Split is home to the European version of Ultra Worlwide, the biggest electronic music festival in the world. Only in 2016, Ultra Europe was host to some of the biggest names on the DJ scene today, including the legendary Carl Cox, David Guetta, Hardwell, Armin Van Buuren and Deadmau5. Every year, it attracts hundreds of thousands of party-loving youth that keep the city restless for almost a week in July.

Ivan Meštrović Gallery

Welcome, art lovers – this gallery is dedicated to one of the greatest internationally acclaimed sculptors of the past century, Ivan Meštrović. His works are nowadays spread all around the world, the most famous probably being The Bowmn and The Spearman, two horsemen sculptures at the entrance of Congress Plaza, Chicago, USA.

Together with Dubrovnik Summer Festival, this manifestation is the biggest and the oldest national theatre festival. Blending drama, concerts, ballet and other dances together, it attracts tourists that care about culture, sophisticated arts and tradition. Every year, the festival is home to numerous national and international professional performers.

Klis Fortress

Hop on a bus and explore this 7th century fortress at 13 km above Split. Once a strategic protection point, Klis is now open to tourists as it overlooks the whole bay and therefore is a great photography point for the whole Split panorama. Definitely try local lamb meat in a restaurant nearby. And yes, just like Dubrovnik, this fortress was the setting for the 4th season of the popular series Game of Thrones.
